Yesterday, the newly-elected PC government’s priorities were presented in a rare summer sitting of the Ontario legislature. The Throne Speech, which was read by Lieutenant Governor the Hon. Elizabeth Dowdeswell, identified key issues such as lowering hydro rates, protecting students, ending hallway medicine and restoring accountability to government. Perth-Wellington MPP Randy Pettapiece was on hand with his fellow colleagues to hear the address.
“The Throne Speech is like a roadmap for the new PC government”, explained Pettapiece. “It shows that we are ready and willing to act on the promises we made to voters during the election”.
The MPP pointed to several commitments in the Throne Speech that would benefit the residents of Perth-Wellington.
“For years, our area has suffered from a shortage of long-term care beds,” said Pettapiece. “Our government will create 15,000 new beds over the next five years.
“We’ll also scrap the unaffordable cap-and-trade carbon tax and reduce taxes and regulatory burden on businesses”, he added.
Over the coming days the PC government will move forward legislation to act on key Throne Speech commitments of bringing an end to the York University strike, repealing cap-and-trade, and cancelling the White Pines Wind Farm project.
“I’m pleased that Premier Ford’s government is getting down to work quickly to deliver results for this province”, concluded Pettapiece. “And I will continue speaking up for the residents of Perth-Wellington as we move ahead with our agenda”.
